Construction equipment insurance

Construction equipment insurance covers civil-works plant — excavators, backhoes, mobile cranes, loaders, compactors — whether or not registered for road use.

Under the Badinter Act of 5 July 1985 (Insurance Code article L211-1), any self-propelled land motor vehicle must carry third-party road liability, including unregistered plant — a point companies often miss. Beyond that mandatory liability, all-risks plant cover includes accidental damage, theft, fire and vandalism. Machinery breakdown, covering internal mechanical and electrical failures, is a separate cover often excluded by default from « all-risks » policies — many companies believe they have it when they do not.

It is one of the products where sector specialisation matters most: few generalist insurers price this risk well, which creates large gaps in price and cover between offers.

McLer systematically spots the most common gaps on this product — missing road liability, machinery breakdown not included — before comparing specialist insurers.
